Durable project in recycled plastics in Groningen’s County Hall (NL)

In 2014, Recycled Outdoor Solutions (ROS) was tasked with transforming the courtyard of the Groningen county hall into a functional and inviting outdoor space. The goal? To create a pleasant area where employees and visitors could enjoy lunch, meet and simply relax. ROS selected sustainable outdoor furniture from the Govaplast Street collection but complemented it with clever customization to seamlessly integrate the design with the unique layout and specific requirements of the space.

A garden with a vision

The courtyard was designed to be more than just an attractive space. The layout was crafted to ensure the area was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Various seating areas with loose seating elements, such as Atlantic chairs and Canvas benches, provide flexibility and comfort. A green oasis was designed: a steel-wire structure with climbing plants, integrating tables, benches, and planters into the setup.</span

Customization for a unique result

Although the Govaplast collection already offers a wide range of models, some adjustments were necessary to perfectly fit the furniture into the design. Customization ensured that the furniture blended seamlessly into the garden, without compromising the sustainable and low-maintenance characteristics of the recycled plastic.</span

Sustainable, practical, and playful

One key requirement for the county hall was the use of recycled products. Furniture made from recycled plastic offers numerous advantages:

Sustainability: the material is resistant to wear and rot, ensuring a long lifespan.
Low maintenance: cleaning is simple, and further maintenance is minimal.
Visual harmony: the neutral colours of the plastic furniture create harmony.

The overall design is given extra character through the playful combination of different materials and colours. The colourful chairs provide a fresh contrast to the soft, neutral tones of the plastic furniture. This gives the courtyard a unique appearance and an inviting character.
