In December 2024, Woodz Lodges opened its doors—a brand-new holiday park with 16 lodges nestled in nature, near the Zolder Circuit in Belgium. To provide guests with convenient and safe access (anti-slip, no risk of falls) to their accommodations, boardwalks made of recycled plastic were installed. This was a conscious choice that combines aesthetics with safety and practicality.
A connection between wood and plastic
The lodges are made of wood, blending seamlessly with the surroundings. The connecting paths are made of plastic thanks to the material’s unique advantages, and specifically recycled plastic for its ecological benefits. The beige colour of the wooden facades perfectly complements the subtle beige tone of the plastic paths, creating a sense of tranquility and unity in the overall design.
Waste in nature?
Yes, but different from what you might think.
At first glance, using plastic in a natural setting might seem unusual. However, in this case, it’s recycled plastic from Govaplast—a material that can rightly be called environmentally responsible. It is made from materials like plastic packaging from PMD bags, old buckets, agricultural foil… What was once waste has now been given a second life as sustainable raw materials. These raw materials are not only used for the paths but also for the picnic tables placed on the decking areas of the lodges.
The benefits of plastic boardwalks
Low maintenance: apart from regular cleaning, the boards require virtually no upkeep
Extremely durable: the material is fully resistant to rot, giving it a long lifespan
Safe: even in rainy or wet conditions, the material remains slip-resistant
As a result, the boardwalks and picnic tables are not only a sustainable solution but also a comfortable and safe choice for visitors to the holiday park.
